Ghost In The Shell is quite a success for Japanese anime and has brought in new concept of cyberworld long before The Matrix became popular. Started as a manga by Masamune Shirow (who's also the author of Appleseed) then got GITS translated to a movie anime, directed by Mamoru Oshii.
I saw the movie first, and then went out to obtain the manga, which surprisingly all of them available are only in Chinese. I have to custom order it to get the Dark Horse's version in English (can't read Chinese - what a shame!). Much later I got the Appleseed manga as well, which I still think cannot rival GITS.
BTW, how you configure your blog so that you can click on a link to show the lengthy version of your blog (where you click on 'Read the whole thing!' option)?
